UT-Austin was the scene of one of the deadliest school shootings in US history: in 1966, architectural engineering student and former Marine Charles Whitman transformed the observation deck of the university's landmark clock tower into a sniper's nest – killing 14 people and wounding 32 others on and near campus. »
