The 2010 mid-term elections broke records in campaign spending, made possible in part by The Supreme Court’s ruling allowing unlimited corporate and union spending on political campaigns. But this year’s campaigns could be just a dress rehearsal for what is to come. FSRN's Matt Laslo reports.

While much attention Tuesday focused on House and Senate races, voters were also electing more than six thousand state legislators. Some political analysts say Republicans' big gains in those races could be even more important than who controls Congress in January. That’s because State legislatures are responsible for redistricting, due to happen once the Census results are released early next year. FSRN’s Jacob Fenston has more.

In races across the country, results were devastating for Democrats. Republicans won at least 60 seats in the house, returning majority to the GOP. The Democrats will keep control in the Senate. One of the biggest wins of the night ensured the Senate’s Democratic leader will lead for another Congress. Harry Reid beat Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle. But the Democrats’ majority there will be much slimmer. The final number is still unclear as three Senate races are yet to be determined. But the House has an overwhelming majority.

In a deeper analysis of last night’s Congressional races and the make-up of the next Congress, Moderate or conservative Democrats, also known as Blue Dog Democrats, did not fare well. Progressives also suffered disappointing losses. FSRN’s Leigh Ann Caldwell has more.

Yesterday's elections produced at least six more Senate seats for Republicans. Two races are still outstanding: Washington and Alaska, where write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski could see victory.
