Argentine hospital uses radio to treat mental illnesses

A hospital in Argentina is using radio to improve life for psychiatric patients. People who suffer from mental illnesses are broadcasting their own programs on FM Desate, while they run the station along with communication specialists and psychologists.
The station managers say radio programs are therapeutic, and they allow patients to express themselves. Marcos Federman reports from Buenos Aires.

Colifata and Desate
Hey, Radio La Colifata is a pioneer in radio carried on by psychiatric patients. It is located al Hospital Borda, a psychiatric hospital for men. FM Desate is a new station, and it comes from Hospital Moyano, a women psychiatric hospital.
Radio La Colifata was an inspiration for FM Desate... and on August 13th both radio stations have an event taking place... they are meeting... members of both are meeting as radio broadcasters and not only as psychiatric patients... check FM Desate's web page for more info: www.fmdesate.org and leave them a message... they will be very happy for your comments!
