As the nation mourns the victims of Thursday’s shooting at Fort Hood, Texas many are reflecting on the challenges facing men and women in the military. Suspected shooter, Major Nidal Malik Hasan was himself psychiatrist who counseled soldiers returning from war. Anti-imperialists aren't mourning.

What's to mourn? Some people about to leave the United Snakes in order to kill people in Iraq or Afghanistan in service of the U.S. ruling class are killed before they get a chance to do their dirty work?

Whatever his motivation, Major Hasan, like Sgt. Hasan Akbar before him, did a service to the world by not only preventing a few people from killing children and others in South Asia, but -- more significantly -- contributing to the demoralization of the imperialist killitary. My only regret is that, unlike Hasan Akbar, Nidal Malik Hasan apparently did not kill only, or even mostly, officers.
