In Thailand, independent news organizations are facing an increasingly difficult situation, with crackdowns coming from the government in the name of security. Earlier this month, the government renewed an emergency decree, introduced during the deadly protests in April. It gives the government power to detain suspects for extended periods without charge and to censor material.
