Thu, 10/21/2010 - 12:40
(Web-only extended version) Today the lawyer for Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma's opposition leader, said the country's Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal challenging her house arrest. The date is set for October 29th. That’s about a week before the country, also known as Myanmar, will hold its first election in two decades. Aung San Suu Kyi won the popular vote in the last election in 1990, but the military junta barred her from taking office and her National League for Democracy Party has been banned from participating in the November 7 election. For more, we're joined by Phyu Phyu Sann, Burma researcher at The Global Justice Center in New York. Click here for the original broadcast version Share this page! »
