Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 1, 2026

FSRN (“we,” “us,” or “this site”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:
If you contact us through our contact form or by email, we collect the information you provide — typically your name, email address, and the content of your message. We use this only to respond to you.

Information collected automatically:
Like most websites, we automatically collect certain information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, device information, and pages viewed. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies.

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use this site. This tool may set its own cookies — see Google Analytics own privacy policy for details on how it handles data.]

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use them to remember your preferences and understand site usage. You can disable cookies through your browser settings, though some site features may not work correctly if you do.

Comments

If you leave a comment, we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string, to help detect spam. An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service’s privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Embedded Content

Some archived pieces on this site include embedded audio or media. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor had visited the other website — those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

Archived Content

Older stories on this site are republished from FSRN’s original 2000–2017 archive under a Creative Commons license, with attribution to the original reporters. See our [Licensing Policy] for details. This archival content does not involve any additional collection of your personal data beyond what’s described above.

How Long We Retain Your Data

[If comments are enabled: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.]

Contact form submissions are retained for [TIME PERIOD, e.g. “up to 24 months”] and then deleted, unless we need to keep them longer for a legitimate business reason.

Your Rights

You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and to request that we correct or delete it, subject to certain legal exceptions. To make a request, contact us at contact@fsrn.org.

Children’s Privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
